The Policy Working Group aims to:
- Ensure the Foundation’s trademarks are being used correctly and in a context that doesn't diminish the Foundation's value.
- Define guidance regarding when, how and in what context the Foundation’s trademarks can be used.
- Manage projects related to the green certification of products and services.
- Engage with external bodies and campaigns, comment on existing or proposed policy related to green software, and create our own policy proposals.
You don’t need to be a trademark lawyer to be part of the group - but it helps to be curious about how the law is used to set norms for groups.

- Unsure if your employer is a member? Look here.
- If your employer is not a member, you can ask them to join the GSF.
This inspired me - I have my own project idea!
Excellent! Your first step should be to start a discussion on the relevant working group’s Ideas board and get the interest of at least three people from 2 different member organisations. If you don’t know where to start your discussion, reach out on the main Foundation board here. You can then reach out to the chairs or PM who will add your idea to the next working group meeting agenda.
