With a rapid increase in the development and application of AI, the moment is ripe for the GSF to shape how companies approach the innovation and sustainability of their AI technology.
Your Opportunity to Influence
In line with the Steering Committee's vision, members of the Green AI Committee will drive the GSF's strategy on Green AI to guide research, recommend policy perspectives, build strategic partnerships, and prioritize the development of tooling and standards.
Steering members are guaranteed a seat on the Committee. An additional five seats are reserved for General Members and will be allocated by lottery.

Nominate A Representative
Organization leads are encouraged to nominate volunteers in any of the following areas:
- Research in Machine Learning, Neural Networks, AI Algorithms
- AI Infrastructure & Systems Engineering
- Data Science
- AI Ethics & Governance
Potential scope of work:
- Establish and revise GSF’s public position on Green AI;
- Identify events where the GSF should have a presence related to Green AI (speaking engagements, sponsorship, attendance);
- Respond to media requests forwarded by the GSF comms team regarding Green AI;
- Propose ways to incorporate Green AI features in GSF projects and Working Groups; and/or
- Support GSF Learn to incorporate Green AI principles and patterns effectively.
Example activities:
- Responding to an AI Bill drafted by US Senators.
- Identifying events we’d like Green AI champions to speak at, and shaping the topics of these talks.
- Defining the syllabus for a Green AI Engineer certification.
- Developing an ISO standard for measuring AIs environmental impact, similar to the SCI specification.
- Responding to a media request from CNN about the implications of an AI regulation proposal, where your quote will be credited to you as a member of the GSF Green AI Committee.
Your Seat at the Table
Committee members will hold their positions for a two-year term. Representatives can be changed during this period as needed.
The Green AI Committee will be governed by a Chair and a Vice-Chair, both appointed by the Steering Members. It operates on a consensus basis; all representatives must agree on changes. If consensus is unachievable, a supermajority vote will resolve any discord.
