🌱 Welcome to the Green Software Foundation! 🌱
- If you are an employee of a member organization, this page is for you.
- If your employer is not a member, you can ask them to join the GSF.
Add help@greensoftware.foundation, admin@greensoftware.foundation and gsf-all@greensoftware.foundation to your email contacts.
Contact help@greensoftware.foundation if you face any issues.
Thank you for joining our community! We’re building a trusted ecosystem of people, standards, tooling and best practices needed to decarbonise software. We’re looking forward to your contributions to the cause.
Follow the steps below to hit the ground running:
Step 1 - Register as a Volunteer!(⌛~ 2 min)
- Fill out the Registration form and submit your entry, agreeing to our Data and GDPR Privacy Policy.
- You MUST use your work email address for your submission. Only employees of member organizations can gain access to private spaces in the GSF.
- You MUST have a GitHub account to complete our registration form (it takes 1 min to create one), everything we do is on GitHub.
- This will add you to the relevant main mailing lists, this is private just for members of the Foundation, where we share a monthly newsletter covering activities. You will receive invitations to the relevant calendar events.
Step 2 - Review our Orientation Guide, for a comprehensive introduction. (⌛~ 1 hour)
- This is your guidebook for understanding how the GSF is structured, where you can engage, and how to engage!
- The material is online, but after registering, you will be invited to attend one of our Orientation calls that take place monthly, on the first Tuesday of every month. There are two times to choose from; one Eastern friendly time, one Western friendly time.
- You’ll receive a comprehensive introduction to the GSF, be shown a clear path for how you can positively impact our community and drive advocacy, awareness, and sustainable software design and development at your organization, and have your questions answered.
Step 3 - Subscribe to the Working Groups and Projects that interest you the most! (⌛~ 5 min)
- Email help@greensoftware.foundation to Subscribe, using the same work email address you used for your registration.
- Subscribing will add you to the mailing list for that working group/project and invite you to any meetings.
- Subscribing is not a commitment; it’s an invitation. Feel free to read any email conversations you see. When you are ready, add your thoughts to any conversation or join a meeting.
Step 5 - Read our Theory of Change, to see what we’re passionate about. (⌛~ 5 min)
- This describes the missions, vision of the Foundation and more importantly our strategy to get there.
Step 6 - Understand our Governance model, to learn how we operate. (⌛~ 15 min)
- The Foundation exists to create a safe space for collaboration between multiple organizations. Understand how we are structured, our consensus and voting model, our working groups and committees. Knowing how we work and engage with one another will help you navigate the GSF.
Step 7 - Complete our Green Software Training Course, to align your understanding of Green Software. (⌛~ 2 hours)
- If you want to engage meaningfully in the GSF, even if you are someone very experienced in the green software space, we strongly recommend you complete our training course.
- It’s short. You can complete it in 2 hrs.
- You’ll be more able to engage in conversations across the rest of the GSF if you know the principles of green software and the language we use to describe green software concepts.
